Our Story

How it all started...

A move of God occurred in Kindersley and area in the late 1970s and early 1980s resulting in many people being saved, filled with the Holy Spirit and seeking the will of God for their lives. Bible study groups sprang up in Eatonia and Mantario area as well as in Kindersley. As many of these groups grew they desired a central place of worship in Kindersley that would address their needs and accommodate their new faith in Christ. On November 3, 1981, a bid was made and subsequently accepted, on the old Elk’s Hall (300- 6th Avenue West) in Kindersley. On November 9, 1981, the officers for the new church were elected. Ryan Hennes, Dana Bailey, Leonard Nash, Dennis Dunn, and Pastor Sid Chalmers were the founding Board members of Kindersley Christian Fellowship (first incorporated as Kindersley Full Gospel Church). The dedication service for the building and official opening of the church was held Sunday, March 21, 1982. The speakers for this service were Mac Hyland and Pastor Chalmers.

Expanding the vision...

The church began with Sunday evening services (lunch served after every service), Tuesday morning ladies Bible studies, Friday evening young people’s Bible study, video Bible College every Wednesday evening and playschool activities for children age 3-4 years. By May, 1982, Pastor Sid Chalmers was full time in Kindersley and church services started Sunday mornings as well. On September 13, 1982 Kindersley Christian Academy was established as a ministry of the church. As the church grew, a bus was added that circulated Rosedale area as well as other parts of Kindersley to pick up those interested in attending Children’s Church as well as the regular services. Under the direction of Doug and Lenore Klan (on staff as of May 30, 1983), the children’s ministry flourished and at one point was large enough to rent the Town Skating Rink (which used to be the old, wooden arena of West Central Events Center) for a Children’s Carnival and Crusade.

Moving to a new building

The little building on 6th Avenue was becoming too small to accommodate a growing church and school. In 1984, over three acres of property was purchased on the service road beside Highway #7 East. In 1989, the shell of the new building went up and on July 14, 1993, the new building was opened with Pastor John Burns from Victory Christian Center in Surrey, B.C. preaching the first message at the dedication service of the new building. Only the front half of the building was occupied; the other half was used for beach volleyball and old fashioned camp meetings because of its sand floor.
Over the years, various individuals have shepherded the flock. After Pastor Chalmers left in 1989, elder Dennis Dunn acted as interim pastor until Rev. Kim Weiler (then of Saskatoon and now founder and directory of Fe Viva Ministries in Central America) pastored for approximately two years. When Pastor Kim left for the mission field, elder Dana Bailey oversaw the congregational move to the new facility on Hwy #7 and provided pulpit ministry until Rev. George Mackenzie from Blackfalds, Alta answered the call to Kindersley Christian Fellowship. Rev. George Madden of Manna Ministries provided apostolic oversight for the church during the 1990s and followed Rev. Mackenzie as interim pastor for six months until Robert Demarias from Regina moved to Kindersley in 1996. Pastor Rob was the driving force behind the completion of the second half of the present facility, which provided a beautiful sanctuary and gymnasium as well as church office space. In 2000, after Pastor Rob moved to Alberta, Dr. Dana Bailey resumed oversight of Kindersley Christian Fellowship.

At the annual meeting in February of 2002, the congregation voted to retain Dr. and Mrs. Bailey as pastors of Kindersley Christian Fellowship. On March 17, 2002 an ordination service for Dana and Marge Bailey was held with Rev. Randy Neilson of Open Bible Faith Fellowship, St. Catharine’s, Ontario, officiating.  In 2005 the congregation voted to formalize our relationship with Pastors Femi and Remi Ogunrinde from Regina by acknowledging their Apostolic role in the development of this church body over the years.  The present leadership team has a vision to impact this community for Christ and have begun to train other leaders in the congregation to expand the ministry.  Kindersley Christian Fellowship has enjoyed fellowship with many ministries across Canada and have regular meetings and guest speakers to edify the Body of Christ in West Central Saskatchewan.
